I plan on using a variety of sources for my big data project including
- CQ Researcher report “Big Data and Privacy” by Tom Price (2013) via the UNE databases
- TED Talk Alessandro Acquisti’s “Future without Secrets” http://www.ted.com/talks/alessandro_acquisti_why_privacy_matters
- TED Talk Glenn Greenwald’s “Why Privacy Matters” http://www.ted.com/talks/glenn_greenwald_why_privacy_matters
I believe that these sources are going to be very beneficial to the argument I am going to be making in my writing. I also plan on using
- TED Talk Kenneth Cukier of The Economist “Big Data is Better Data” https://www.ted.com/talks/kenneth_cukier_big_data_is_better_data?language=en
- Current event short audio segments
Aside from what I learned from browsing the sources quickly, I had no prior knowledge of big data and what it is used for. I believe that it is definitely a possible invasion of ones privacy. I would want to know why this topic is not more widely known and why others don’t seem to be worried that a lot of their personal information is being shared.
